Snow-Palooza

What is up with the early onslaught of winter? As I write this, 34 states have some type of winter weather advisory. Ridiculous! I'm in beautiful Flagstaff, Arizona covering round 2 of snow. Round 1 dumped a foot of snow on this mountain town and round 2 will likely bring just as much if not more. They're used to it here. 109.4 inches is the seasonal average for snowfall. What surprises me, is how little people complain about it. The attitude is so laid back and so friendly. They welcome the snow. I think it's because it usually doesn't stick around all that long because the sun comes right back out after a storm and helps melt it pretty quickly.

I ran across some interesting snow stats for Flagstaff(elevation 7000ft). December is by no means the snowiest month. That title goes to March which sees an average of 23.8". When it snows it snows big here. How about this for a stat: From December 13-December 20, 1967, 84.6" of snow fell. Unbelievable! Or how about this: 31" fell in one day, December 30, 1915. Talk about being buried. I don't think this storm will be quite that bad but I'm going to throw a wild guess out there for snow. I say this next storm coming in late Wednesday drops 15" on Flagstaff. Just a spur-of-the-moment prediction, but I'll betcha I'm not far off.
